Jacqui Scrap

The digiScrap event started at 1pm, in conjunction with the guys gameDay. There was a lot arranging to do. People, spaces, files, software, equipment, food, etc...

I finished this page around 5:30pm.

DigiScrapping is fun, but it IS time consuming. It's not 'hard' per-say... but it takes some organizing and thought. I need to plan ahead so I have an idea of what I want to create...

Now that I will have time off ... I will get working on it!

Roses or Carnations??
February 19, 2009

This was my first attempt at making carnations roses out of icing on my own.

I made the icing from scratch, it is D-Lish!

Anyway, I tried the pink ones first and they kinda came out like carnations. The edges were a little ridgid, I think it's b/c the icing was too stiff. So, I added some water and some black food coloring and made the gray roses... It was very hard trying to make the bud (the center) connect. I finally realized how to do it, but by that time, I ran out of icing. Poop!!!

Tomorrow I get my cake (courtesy of a bakery) and then I have to ice it on my own -- that should be interesting, since it's really a first attempt at doing that with my own homemade stuff... I always used to use the canned shiznit.

'nuff rambling.

My Love...

I can't get enough of this place. Me and the husby used to go here a few times a week. We would just find a book and sit and chill in the cafe for a few hours. Sometimes we'd bring our laptops and surf. It was nice to get away from 'home'. The atmosphere is nice. I love being around people, so it's nice for me, and for the husby, he's not so much a socializer but having an enormous source of books at an arms-length away...it is just heaven.

We haven't frequented this place lately, however, I try to hit it up myself 2-3 times a month. I am always buying new books and reading only the first half of each. It's rare I find something good enough to keep my attention throughout the whole story. If I do manage to read a book in it's entirety, it is immediately noted on my list of 'favorite books'.

Currently, I'm reading: Getting Rid of Matthew & Children (not a children's book)

3.0 Earthquake Sends NJ Citizens Into State of Panic

Last night, at around 10.30 p.m., a 3.0 magnitude earthquake struck, centered a few miles away from Morristown, NJ. According to reports, New Jersey citizens lost it. "It sounded like an explosion, houses shook and dogs started barking," said one tremor victim. Others said it felt like a "bomb" and one man TV reporters, "I was upstairs on my computer, and all of a sudden I hear a boom, boom, boom, then a bang, bang, bang. My monitor almost fell off of my computer desk. So I immediately went downstairs to check on my grandma and ask her if she was alright or if she fell." Harrowing, yes? In their defense, the last recorded earthquake in NJ was a 2.1 last year and a jarring 4.0 quake rocked their world back in 1985.

I'd like to send out a THANK YOU to the commenter who defends the rookies!

Earthquakes in places like NJ feel a lot bigger because their bedrock tends to be harder and transmits energy a lot better than the crappy, broken-up bedrock we have here on the west coast. Magnitude only tells you how much energy was released on the fault, how severe the earthquake feels to someone nearby depends on a lot of different variables.
